Geranium is an evergreen, perennial, hairy shrub with pointed leaves and pinkish-white flowers which belongs to the Geraniaceae family. It is native to the Cape Provinces and the Northern Provinces of South Africa.
It has antibacterial, antioxidant, antifungal, hypoglycemic, astringent, antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
Geranium has long been used to relax the mind, calm irritability, cure bacterial infections, help with nasal disorders, insomnia, pain, anxiety, stress and depression. It’s oil is also used in aromatherapy to treat a number of health conditions. In addition, it is said to nourish and re-hydrate dry and mature skin. It is also beneficial for reducing acne breakouts, skin irritation, and skin infections when applied topically.
Geranium holds citrus and fruity, somewhat lemony but very floral, herbaceous soft, potent warm green aromas with a hint of spice and rose smell. It has citrusy, perfumey, roselike flavor.
