Description
Ironwort is a perennial sub-shrub or herb, coated by a fine, woolly layer of microscopic intertwined hairs with simple branched stems, belongs to the Lamiaceae family, native to the Mediterranean region.
It has anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antiulcer, vasoprotective, anti-oxidant, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
Ironwort has been used to aid digestion, strengthen the immune system, suppress common cold, the flu and other viruses. It also helps to cure allergies, shortness of breath, sinus congestion as well as pain, depression and mild anxiety. Use of Ironwort reduces throat irritation, blood pressure and mucus production.
Ironwort has a very pleasant smell. It’s tea has a mild, sweet, earthy, and floral flavor reminiscent of a blend of mint, chamomile, and citrus in a milder version.
