It is basically used in traditional medicine as tonic, it is antiseptic, antitussive as it can prevent or relieve cough, it is carminative and it can help release gas, it can also assist in treating colds. It has long been used in skin cosmetics and in cooking.
It has a strong woddy and forest like smell and it has a mild or strong taste depending on the brewing time. Thyme can very easily become a very strong cup of tea if brewed for long.
